Iran Halts Rail Services Amid Security Warnings

(MENAFN) Iran temporarily stopped railway operations along major routes in the provinces of Mashhad and Khuzestan on Tuesday after Israeli alerts warned of potential strikes targeting infrastructure, as reported by Iranian media outlets.

A news agency, quoting local authorities, announced that every train service operating on the Mashhad rail line has been called off “until further notice.”

The governor of Mashhad explained that the measure was implemented “based on the unethical warning from the Zionist entity (Israel)” and aimed at ensuring the safety of civilians.

Meanwhile, in the southern region of the country, a deputy governor from Khuzestan confirmed that railway activities across the South and Zagros lines were likewise halted due to similar concerns.

This action followed shortly after the Israeli military issued advisories urging Iranian citizens to refrain from train travel and to steer clear of railway stations nationwide.

Tensions across the region have continued to intensify since Israel and the United States initiated a military campaign against Iran on Feb. 28, resulting in the deaths of over 1,340 individuals, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian officials have not provided updated casualty figures in recent days.
